For all the years I have followed and loved the world cup, three things have been consistent about the FIFA World Cup; England will qualify for the world cup, English fans will expect the team to perform better (with an outside chance of winning) and England will get knocked out dramatically from the World Cup.
Uruguay were a better team. I had to even ask a friend what formation England was playing as I did not quite get their game plan. I waited for the game to end, as for me the finger pointing was the only thing I could predict with certainty. Oddly enough, even when Wayne Rooney scored, I saw it as a likely delay of the inevitable, with the drama coming after England play Costa Rica.
No English manager has won the Barclays Premier League, yet England went to the World Cup with an English manager. The current England manager, lost his last two world cup games as manager (before the current two he lost), when Hodgson was in charge of Switzerland. The current England manager, had to leave Liverpool early in his contract as he almost drove the big club into relegation.
There is no ways anyone should be surprised at the England performance. Add that the current England manager taunted Luis Suarez, a feared opposition striker before the game, and you see why the result was predictable for me.
England's world cup dramatic exit is the only thing predictable about the World Cup!
