When you tell your children about what used to be, and "the struggle", what is it that you are looking to achieve? It worries me that I will hear people who are not older than 30 years of age today, refer to the political struggle, as if it is something they lived through. These people forget that when they became conscious of the world and all its events, Nelson Mandela was a free man.
So what struggle are they talking of? It's great to know your past. You get context today as to why some people are the way they are, and why they believe what they believe. Just be careful though, in terms of the stories you tell yourself and teach your children. Are they your life experience, and what life experience do you want for your children.
AMANDLA!
