For many parents, one of the biggest nightmares is choosing the right education for your children. With today's competitive environment, and particularly the global crisis we are living in today, there is added fear and desire to do what's best in terms of preparing our children for the future. Well, any movement that claims to provide an education for the future is lying in my opinion. None of us have a crystal ball, so we can't see into the future to be able to say that with certainty. What you can do for your child at best, is give them an education that is relevant, which will allow your child to be able to adapt with the times as they change.
The Waldorf education system is probably the most misunderstood of all the approaches to education out there. People have a perception that it is archaic and airy fairy. Well if that is how you define allowing children to be children, or giving pupils a hands on experience, that allows them to learn how to think, rather than regurgitate like parrots, then I can't change your mind. I am all for stimulating the curious mind, rather than creating button pushers that have no sense of understanding of cause and effect. I am finding that the Waldorf education system allows for my children to be taught what is relevant to them at the appropriate age, and more importantly they are thinkers who question what is, rather than just accept it for what it is. My children are at the Constantia Waldorf school.
Contrary to popular belief, the Waldorf Education system is not only about arts and crafts with a disregard for Maths and Science. It is also not against the use of technology, but more focuses on introducing the gadget aspects at a more appropriate age.
Watch and learn, this is quite insightful if you want to understand the Waldorf system. It is not merely about academic learning, it is about an educational experience!
To get a feel for the Constantia Waldorf School, there is a fair on 24th March 2012 which is an opportunity for you to be entertained, or you might want to be entreprising and sell your goodies through one of the stalls available.
