I will never forget how proudly Dione Warwick spoke of her cousin when she was first nominated for a Grammy award. That was the first time I ever heard of Whitney Houston, and little did we know then of what was to come from the talented young girl she was talking about. It feels like a long time ago, and given Whitney's passing, it is now a lifetime ago!
It's natural to say "what a waste" that Whitney Houston died at 48. If you consider what she achieved in that lifetime, it's not a waste! She has achieved records (pun intended) that many would be proud to achieve a fraction of. 6 Grammy Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, to mention but a few. According to Guinness World Records, she was the most awarded female act of all time!
I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs and made some bad rhymes
I've acted out my love in stages with ten thousand people watching
Well, we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you
This is a voice that will remain with us! R.I.P Whitney Houston, your life should be celebrated, rather than your death judged.
