Thanksgiving, 365 Grateful

I don't know the history behind Thanksgiving. I do know a lot about Black Friday, and Cyber Monday and the holiday travel stories that get built over this long American weekend. Be that as it may, making time for family is always a good start. The Thanksgiving holiday really has an encapsulating name, that leaves a lot of room for my imagination, which I probably prefer to the truth.

It's important to stop, pause, and take a moment to give thanks, or practice some form of gratitude. I have seen various versions on Social Media and I really think they are fun to do, but they shouldn't get lost in the habit of posting. Giving thanks and having an attitude of gratitude does shift things for the better in your life, as your perspective changes. I have been doing a Gratitude Journal for years now, and I have found it to be very awakening and rewarding.

It does not have to be complicated. When you start seeing the simple things, appreciating them and being grateful for them, you get more of the little things and more of everything else. It is a blessing to be grateful that you can get up and still breathe on your own. It is a blessing to be grateful that you can eat when you are hungry. It is a blessing to be grateful that you have loved ones around you to enjoy this life experience you are having. These are the little things, that are truly the big things, that you can easily take for granted. Appreciate them for what they are, and give thanks for them!

Thanksgiving is an interesting climax as the year ends, and being a Christian, I cant help but wonder if there is a link with the Advent, which starts on the fourth Sunday before December 25 (Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November).
