Job creation is a problem the world over. With the Fiscal Cliff, Republicans are defending the rich being taxed as the theory is that the rich create jobs, and by taxing them you will curb job creation. Is that really true? In South Africa, in defense of Capitalism, some people attack the ANC's policies which are looking to correct the Socio-Economic imbalance by taxing the have's and uplifting the have nots.
Nick Hanauer challenges the belief around rich people being the source of creating jobs. I agree with him, without the ordinary consumer, we will have no jobs. Ordinary consumers create jobs, because we need them to be buyers resulting in demand growing and the business therefore hiring more people in order to be able to meet that demand.
What is even more obvious is if only the rich were relied on to be the driver of consumption, they can only eat so much or buy so much clothes. Yet in defense of their wealth, people will have us believe that "Rich people create jobs". It's not as simple as that, and that absolute statement is not only inaccurate, it is arrogant!
What do you think?
