Customer Service And The Power Of Listening


It is sad that when I Google "Image Of Customer Service" all images portray a call centre type environment as the people in the images all have head sets on. There is very little imagery of face to face assistance. So it makes me wonder if we are getting further and further away from understanding our customers.

I am enjoying reading The 3rd Alternative, by Stephen R Covey. Given people are often so pre-occupied with reacting in a conversation to what is being said, rather than listening and actually understanding to what is being said, I thought I would share this extract.


"No solution you have in your bag of goods will exactly fit the customer. But together you can construct a creative solution that will fit"


You don't know the answer, until you understand your client's pain points and what works for them. So until you are clear on that, don't push your agenda, look to create a solution based on the understanding of what is needed by your client.
