Thank goodness for the Internet! It's been around for 20 years or so, and while some of us take it for granted, that we have access to it, in some parts of the world today, some people still don't have it. Let that settle in for a while, before you carry on reading. The statement was not for dramatic effect!
I am grateful for it, because it creates such an opportunity for us, as people, removing a lot of barriers to entry. It is an ideal space for learning and creating. So if you love to learn by doing, this is the space to create.
It has been opportunistic for my thinking and writing. The Internet that is. I have actually learnt to practice more of what my interests are. I am referring to the inner artist in me, as opposed to my interests in the analytical, left brain hemisphere, dominated world. After all, those interests support me in "paying the bills".
How many dreams have been shattered by the good advice of, "there is no money in that, become a _____________ and you will get a good job and make a living".
Well, what if we are wrong? As a shadow artist, I can now express myself, from the other side, with my writing. Hello...
I don't think I would have written much, and shared as much, had there not been a medium like the Internet. However, had I found the book, The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, earlier, that statement is not true.
We are missing the patience and energy to rediscover what lies within us. In the beginning, when you don't know better, you will really think what you create stinks! As you do anything, more and more, you get better at it. Practice makes perfect is not just a nice thing to say. Ignore your inner critic, and just keep exploring.
Just as important, is to ignore the external critics. "The good opinion of other people", as Wayne Dyer used to call it, can be very destructive to the journey of you, becoming...
That I suppose is the dark side of the Internet, there is a captive audience, who have a very big opinion.
Can you think of someone who is great at what they produce, and are also the type of person to deliver a diatribe on what is produced by others. I think NOT!
I learnt diatribe as a word last night, so I have to fit it in to my vocabulary everyday, until it comes naturally to me and I don't forget what it means 😉😉😉
Don't worry about the critics, they should actually thank you for being a creator and producer. After all, if you did not create or produce, they would not have a purpose. They would not have something to have an opinion about!
So if you are one of those, who has this inner artist in you, that you wish to connect with or rediscover, I recommend you get your hands on this book! It really is a gift that keeps on giving.
