Maya is my youngest of two daughters, and she is "the diva". No, she really does refer to herself as that. At 10, she is constantly telling me about how good she looks, how she can "put herself together", how she has style. She loves high heels, and can walk them. She paints her mother's and sister's nails, as well as her own, priding herself in the creativity of her artwork. She is also extremely competitive, wanting to be the best at everything she participates in. I learn a lot from her, and her interest in sports (participating not watching) has given me an opportunity to coach rather than tell as a parent. Both my girls are a gift, it's Father's Day everyday for me.
I enjoy watching her play soccer, seeing how she breaks down technical requirements and tactical approaches to anything she does. She does not use those words, but that's how best I can describe the process she is following as I ask her why she does things the way she does. She is not afraid of practicing to get to her reward, that of succeeding. I will tell you more about that in a different Blog, but first thought you read this great article by Pro Bonson, How Not To Talk To Your Kids.
