The Cost Of Misguided Beliefs

Every Sunday, going through my twitter timeline, I am amused by the comments referring to The News in the Sunday Papers, until the evening crescendo of what is broadcast by Carte Blanche. We need to stop valuing news that is sensational, frightening and divisive as it is based on that we have our beliefs of the country we live in. Wouldn't we be better off toning down on the rhetoric we lap up and consume more facts?

Political party alignment has become the most divisive character of our time! What I am saying is, people who support different political parties see the world very differently, and political leaders know that and exploit it, helped by the News casting we subject ourselves to.

"Every politician who brands the opposition as the enemy, fuels this fire. We have been taught to care more about winning the debate than we do about creating informed discussion" ~ Noah Blumenthal. South Africans, having just experienced election campaigning for the 2014 Elections, can attest to this.

I watched The Danger Of Hot Sexy News, a TEDx Talk by Noah Blumenthal. This was embedded on Jesse Lynn Stoner's blog titled The Best Way To Predict Your Future. Considering how profound what he talks to is, I was surprised that the video on YouTube had only had just over 3,000 views. In a sense, it validates what the video highlights to be the problem in what we consume.
