Col'Cacchio Means What?

A pizza restaurant, with what is in my opinion the best pizza in South Africa, has the added feature of answering the question, what's in a name? If you are clear about the Italian Col'Cacchio, translated into English, please be my guest and enlighten me? I was hoping that Google would help clear things up, but it has only left me more convinced as to why simply eating up whatever is served on the internet is dangerous.

What is clear is that Col'Cacchio is Italian slang. As to what it means, it seems very open to translation. The closest description I found via Google, was someone saying it basically means "up yours". This is the closest for me, as it ties with the story I was told by my friend, an Italian who has now been living in South Africa for the last three years. She has given me the origin of Col'Cacchio and it's a name i am attached to and find fitting to the inspired Italian food Col'Cacchio serves.

Col'Cacchio makes gourmet pizzas, with an equal commitment to health in what they serve. The health balance, with the Italian spirit and the thin base of the pizza had many skeptics telling the founders that the concept would never work. This might be why to make a point, they chose a name that seems derogatory, as they were speaking to the skeptics. Given since 1992, they have opened one Col'Cacchio after the another, and they are now sitting at 24 restaurants, I would say it has worked!

I am not into "franchise"/"family restaurants" in the form of the usual suspects we have in South Africa. If I am going to eat out, it better be something that I know none of us in the house can replicate. The pizza at Col'Cacchio does that for me. Add the service levels I have had at the various restaurants from Jo'burg to Cape Town, it's a success recipe that fits the franchise model well. Every pizza is consistent, no matter where I am ordering it, and they do get creative with the pizza toppings.

Having gone to the Col'Cacchio in Blouberg today, one would think I was crazy to go that far for a special. It may have cost me more in petrol to get there (than one closer to home), but I also wanted a pizza while I enjoyed views of Table Mountain as well as Robben Island, without paying more for That viewing. Add the complementary "party trick" glasses my daughters got from the manager, and you will understand that I don't frequent Col'Cacchios for their specials, but more because they make us feel special. You need only look at their "About Us" page on their website to see what they live up to.

After that hearty lunch, a walk on the beach served as wrapping paper and ribbon to the gift of the experience.

am not sure what Col'Cacchio means in English, but for me it's all about a gourmet thin crust pizza that is consistent no matter where you order it, and it is always served in a way that makes it food for the soul.
