Do You Use My Fitness App?

Who would not want to use myfitnesspal app? It's a free app that will give you a count of calories for the food you eat, and also tells you how many calories you are losing from the exercise you are doing. Well if you are a Paula Deen fan, you would probably not be interested in such a gadget. I mean if you see nothing wrong with eating this Ghetto Breakfast Doughnut Sandwich you will be wasting your time counting calories.

I thought I had a decadent breakfast this morning (well until I saw the above YouTube Video). Scrambled eggs (organic with a mix of parsley, chillies and spring onion), back bacon (reduced fat brand), half a tomato and a slice of sour dough rye bread toasted. The back bacon, was baked in the oven, so no further cooking oil or fat added. Considering that I have tried to go as healthy as possible in approach to preparation relative to the meal, you would not think it is a lot in calories.

Well, I calculated the meal to be at about 506 calories. I did not drink juice with the breakfast, just had sparkling water, compliments of our Soda Stream machine. That would have added to the calorie count. I had lemon and ginger tea, with no sugar or honey. Most will have coffee (with sugar and milk), or cappuccino to go with the breakfast. So what is that 506 calories in context then?

The shocker is when I went for my brisk walk after breakfast. I did not go with the kids, as I wanted to pace. It was a dry day, so I could go for a walk along the green belt and it was also breezy enough but not cold. I walked 5.35km in 50 minutes and 33 seconds. My average speed while walking was 6.3km/h. Max Speed was 37.2km/h and there was decent ascent and descent during the walk. That work rate only resulted in me losing 618 calories from that exercise.

So a 50 minute walk, to burn off what seemed a quick and easy breakfast! I know all this because I used Endomondo during my walk! When you are a male above 35, your metabolism slows down a lot. So eat as much as you used to, and you will see how you don't lose it as quickly as you used to. The result is you will put on weight! Weight is not a perfect measure of your overall health, but since using myfitnesspal app, I am not exercising that much more, but I am eating a whole lot less junk.

That's why I use myfitnesspal app, it really brings an awareness that is liberating in terms of getting rid of the baggage we carry when it comes to weight.
