Care About Your Health

Who cares about your health? Given how we have access to information, I can't understand how for some, "putting junk in your trunk" happens without one thought being taken as to the consequences. I am not talking about total shut out of food without nutrition, after all, I am a believer of taking everything in moderation. That means even too much of a good thing is bad for you.

Obesity related healthcare expenditure makes up 20% of US Total Healthcare expenditure which in turn represents 20% of US GDP. When Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg looked to cut down accessibility to Super Size sugar drinks (Sodas) in New York, people focused on the wrong part of the proposal. While those who opposed the proposal, felt it was an infringement on people's rights, what they missed is the burden on the state. The result of too much sugar, fat, and in turn an unhealthy way of eating, leads to obesity.

Obesity is a real problem, and not only limited to the USA, but growing even in emerging markets economies. 66% of Americans are overweight and obese. Not only are these people at risk of illnesses that are a drag on Health Care costs, but they are also less productive in contributing to the economy by adding value to it.

People will happily take out a motor plan and take their car in for the scheduled service, ensuring they use the recommended fuel blends to run the car, but won't think twice about consuming goods they know are not good for their own bodies. Over the past two decades, American children have doubled their intake of "Sodas" (sugary drinks). Calories drive weight!

Everything is a habit, and while we are in a hurry to get things done, we often just put food or drink in our mouth to kill the hunger. The trick is to put food or drink in our mouth in order to get nutrients for our body, so we can function and thrive rather than survive this life. It's easier said than done I know. That is why you have to admire the sneaky move pulled off by whoever put the letter S in "Fast Food".
