I enjoyed this book! That was not looking at it from a recruiter perspective, but as a person who has an interest in my own career development. James M. Citrin and Richard A. Smith of Spencer Stuart, using research based on their line of work, give insightful results from their research for anyone seeking to crack the code of how to build a rewarding, personally satisfying career. While I don't think what works for one, will work for another, there are some useful patterns they touch on. Simplifying it into the 5 Patterns Of Extraordinary Careers I think was more a title thing, as it is more complicated than five things where people are involved.
Without a doubt, to achieve success in your career, you can go it alone and you will achieve something. However, your success will be limited to your capacity. An extract from The Five Patterns OF Extraordinary Careers,
"At first blush, career success seems to hinge upon personal performance and outperforming others around you. That's what many people believe is the route to get promoted. Most see climbing the corporate ladder as a treacherous journey - the higher you climb, the more cutthroat and nasty the environment.
Not necessarily. Happily, the facts show that the most successful individuals populating the top rung of the corporate ladder are more often those who can attract top talent and inspire them to exceptional levels of performance. When we examined the experiences of hundreds of top performing executives, it was apparent that they were the beneficiaries of the talents and performance of their peers, subordinates, and superiors".
